[00:00.57]New Year's Day|[00:02.81]
On New Year's Day
people start a new year.|[00:06.23]
Many people make resolutions.|[00:08.60]
They resolve to
be better people.|[00:11.21]
Some people decide
that they will lose weight|[00:14.76]
so that they can be healthier.|[00:16.62]
Some people decide
to give up smoking.|[00:19.55]
They also want to be healthier.|[00:22.10]
There are all kinds of
resolutions that people make.|[00:25.77]
Some people try not
to lose their tempers.|[00:29.31]
Some people say that
they will work harder.|[00:32.11]
There are people who
try to give up bad habits.|[00:35.41]
Every year, my brother says|[00:37.21]
that he will stop
biting his nails.|[00:39.95]
He stops biting
his nails in January,|[00:42.44]
but by February he
always starts again.|[00:45.92]
That is the thing about
New Year's resolutions.|[00:48.78]
People seldom keep them.|[00:50.71]
Everybody starts out
with good intentions,|[00:53.39]
but it is very hard
to stick with them.|[00:56.31]
I don't make New
Year's resolutions.|[00:58.99]
I find that I just break them.|[01:01.35]
I just work day by day
to break my bad habits.|[01:04.71]
I know that I eat
too many sweets.|[01:06.89]
Every day, I just
try to resist them.|[01:09.56]
I think that every
day is a new day|[01:12.67]
regardless of whether it
is New Year's Day or not.|[01:15.78]
Bad habits are hard to break.|[01:17.84]
The best thing is never
to start any bad habits.|[01:21.38]
I don't know if my brother
will ever stop biting his nails,|[01:25.30]
but I know that each
January he intends to stop.|[01:28.29]
Maybe one of these
New Year's Days|[01:30.71]
he'll get over that habit.
