[00:00.30]The Peach Orchard|[00:03.39]
When I was very young, I
lived near a peach orchard.|[00:07.68]
Now, there is a park where
the orchard used to be.|[00:12.53]
I always remember
the peach orchard|[00:15.27]
because my grandmother and I|[00:16.82]
used to go there
and pick peaches.|[00:20.00]
The owner of the orchard|[00:21.49]
would let all the
neighbors pick peaches.|[00:25.04]
It's not the fact that I
used to get many ripe,|[00:28.15]
tasty peaches that I
remember; it's the time|[00:30.88]
that I used to spend
with my grandmother|[00:32.69]
that I remember.|[00:34.49]
My grandmother was very old,|[00:35.92]
but she was very healthy.|[00:39.03]
She used to walk a lot.|[00:42.27]
I think that is
what kept her fit.|[00:45.50]
She had a lot of energy|[00:46.56]
so she liked to go
to a lot of places.|[00:50.04]
She would get a fruit basket,|[00:52.84]
and then she would ask me|[00:54.34]
if I wanted to go
to the orchard.|[00:57.57]
I always said yes
because I enjoyed|[00:59.87]
walking through the
orchard on a sunny day.|[01:03.23]
We never climbed up on a
ladder to reach the peaches;|[01:06.40]
we just reached for
the low hanging fruit.|[01:10.07]
My grandmother and I
used to talk all the time|[01:11.88]
that we were out there.|[01:13.99]
It was nice to
spend time with her.|[01:16.67]
She told me many stories about|[01:18.47]
when she was a young girl.|[01:21.21]
We laughed and got to
know each other better.|[01:24.44]
My grandmother only
visited us during the summer.|[01:27.93]
She lived in California,
and I lived in Niagara Falls,|[01:31.35]
so we didn't get to spend
a lot of time with each other.|[01:35.45]
We enjoyed the hot
summer days in the orchard.|[01:40.99]
You could smell the peaches,|[01:42.80]
and the bees
buzzed lazily by us.|[01:46.65]
My grandmother would point out|[01:48.89]
different insects
and birds to me.|[01:51.50]
I learned a lot about
nature from her.|[01:53.87]
We would end up with
a big basket of peaches.|[01:59.10]
When we got home, my
mother would wash the peaches,|[02:02.76]
and often she would
bake a peach pie for us.|[02:06.25]
Nobody bakes a peach
pie like my mother.|[02:09.48]
It's good to have
memories like that.|[02:12.78]
Childhood memories of time
spent with my grandmother|[02:16.01]
are very precious to me.|[02:18.63]
Sometimes, it's
just the simple things|[02:21.80]
that you do in life that leave
you with the nicest memories.
