[00:00.30]Walk a Mile in My Shoes|[00:02.99]
Have you ever heard the
saying "walk a mile in my shoes?"|[00:05.97]
I think it is a
very good saying.|[00:08.15]
Do you know what it means?|[00:09.77]
It means, that before
you judge someone,|[00:12.25]
you should put yourself
in his or her position.|[00:15.49]
For example, if someone
was running in a race,|[00:18.66]
and they did very
poorly and came in last|[00:21.65]
it wouldn't be fair to say,
"oh, he's just a terrible runner."|[00:25.50]
You would have to look
at all the circumstances|[00:27.93]
that made the
person lose the race.|[00:30.17]
Maybe they pulled a muscle
in their leg the day before;|[00:33.59]
maybe this is
their very first race;|[00:36.51]
maybe they are not in good form|[00:38.44]
because something
isn't right in their lives.|[00:40.99]
There can be so many
things that affect a person's life,|[00:44.29]
performance and moods.|[00:52.56]
If someone was
very quiet at a party,|[00:54.98]
you couldn't just assume
that they weren't friendly.|[00:57.66]
You don't know what is
happening in their lives.|[01:00.46]
They could be feeling ill,|[01:02.14]
or they might have just
had a bad experience.|[01:04.69]
Nobody can know exactly
how another person feels.|[01:08.73]
Even if someone tells you|[01:10.48]
what he or she is experiencing,|[01:12.65]
you still won't fully understand|[01:14.46]
what is going on
inside the other person.|[01:17.26]
Everyone perceives and
feels things differently.|[01:21.05]
To walk a mile in someone
else's shoes is to try|[01:24.60]
and understand things from
that person's perspective.|[01:27.77]
We are all shaped by the events|[01:30.26]
that have taken
place in our lives.|[01:32.93]
No two people have gone
through the exact same things.|[01:36.35]
So, before you are
quick to judge someone,|[01:39.48]
stop and think about what it is|[01:41.47]
that they might
have gone through.|[01:43.40]
You won't always understand
why people do what they do,|[01:46.82]
but you can try to understand
and put yourself in their position.
