[00:00.20]How to Avoid Catching a Cold|[00:03.90]
How many colds do
you catch in a year?|[00:06.32]
Most of my friends
catch quite a few colds.|[00:08.75]
They cough, sniffle and sneeze.|[00:10.93]
They carry around tissues|[00:12.29]
and blow their
noses all the time.|[00:14.47]
Their eyes water, and
they have scratchy throats.|[00:16.84]
I don't get many colds.|[00:18.64]
In fact, I can go
for a whole year|[00:20.69]
and never catch a cold.|[00:22.00]
That is why I consider
myself an expert|[00:24.17]
on how not to catch a cold.|[00:26.17]
I'll tell you how to
avoid catching a cold.|[00:28.65]
I think that you need
to take a lot of vitamin C.|[00:32.51]
I eat a lot of fruits
and vegetables.|[00:34.44]
I drink fruit juice too.|[00:36.12]
I also take vitamin C pills.|[00:37.92]
Whenever I begin to
feel a cold coming on,|[00:40.79]
I make sure that I have
taken my vitamin C pill,|[00:43.46]
and I drink a lot
of orange juice.|[00:45.39]
That usually knocks the
cold right out of my system.|[00:48.37]
I make sure that I
get a lot of fresh air.|[00:51.67]
In the winter, a lot of
buildings are shut up tight|[00:54.04]
so that the air is stale,
and people's germs|[00:56.71]
circulate through the buildings.|[00:58.21]
I get outside and
breathe in fresh clean air.|[01:01.38]
If somebody is rude
enough to cough or sneeze|[01:04.61]
right in front of me without
covering his or her mouth,|[01:07.22]
I just hold my
breath for a second.|[01:09.65]
I'm not sure if
this works or not,|[01:11.64]
but I don't want to breathe
in anybody's cold germs.|[01:15.00]
Many germs are
passed through hands.|[01:17.43]
It is important to wash
your hands thoroughly|[01:19.54]
if you touch anything
in a public place.|[01:21.72]
If I hold a banister while I
am walking down the stairs,|[01:24.52]
I think of all the people
who have used that banister,|[01:27.44]
and I make sure that I
wash my hands before I eat.|[01:30.99]
Doorknobs also have
a lot of germs on them.|[01:33.54]
Money is another thing that
is passed from hand to hand|[01:36.15]
and is covered with germs.|[01:38.45]
Sometimes, I see people
stick money into their mouths.|[01:41.50]
Just think of all the germs|[01:42.93]
that you would be putting
into your mouth if you did that.|[01:45.48]
If you just give it a
little bit of thought,|[01:48.16]
you can avoid a lot of the
germs that cause colds.|[01:51.14]
If you eat good
foods and stay fit,|[01:52.70]
your body will be able
to fight off the germs|[01:54.88]
that cause colds
and other diseases.|[01:57.61]
It is not always
possible to avoid colds,|[02:00.04]
but if you do catch a cold,|[02:01.40]
drink plenty of fluids
and get a lot of rest.
