[00:00.20]Moving to Another Country|[00:02.94]
My friend Steve moved
to another country.|[00:06.05]
He had lived in
Canada all his life,|[00:08.16]
and he moved to Japan.|[00:09.66]
Life in Japan was
very different for Steve|[00:11.90]
than what he was used to.|[00:13.51]
At first, Steve suffered
from culture shock.|[00:16.50]
His whole life seemed different.|[00:18.24]
He was not used to
the way of life in Japan.|[00:20.73]
Steve was not used to
the large crowds of people|[00:24.40]
that walked up and
down the streets in Japan.|[00:26.83]
In his hometown in Canada,
the streets were fairly quiet.|[00:30.19]
Steve had to get
used to the food.|[00:32.24]
In Japan, the people
eat a lot of fish.|[00:34.41]
Steve had never
eaten much fish before.|[00:36.78]
Steve wanted pizza, but
it was expensive in Japan.|[00:40.20]
Steve said that he had
to adjust his eating habits.|[00:43.43]
The people in Japan
have different customs|[00:46.48]
than we do here in Canada.|[00:48.35]
Steve didn't want
to offend anyone,|[00:50.40]
so he had to learn the customs.|[00:52.58]
He had to learn about
what Japanese people|[00:55.01]
considered polite and rude.|[00:57.49]
Sometimes, in a foreign
country you can do something|[01:00.36]
to insult someone
without even realizing|[01:02.72]
that you are being rude.|[01:04.46]
At first, Steve had
trouble with the language.|[01:07.26]
He said that the only way
to really learn the language|[01:10.25]
is to talk to people.|[01:11.61]
Steve talked to a lot of people.|[01:13.61]
He made a lot of mistakes,|[01:15.23]
but people were
patient with him,|[01:17.34]
and they tried to help
him with his Japanese.|[01:19.76]
It wasn't long before
Steve felt more comfortable|[01:22.82]
in his new surroundings.|[01:24.24]
You have to be willing
to learn new customs|[01:26.67]
and a new language if you
move to another country.|[01:29.35]
Steve feels very comfortable
in Japan, and in Canada now.|[01:33.39]
He is thinking about going
to another country now.|[01:36.13]
He thinks that he might
like to try and live in Italy.|[01:38.93]
I'm sure that he would get
over his culture shock very fast|[01:42.22]
if he moved there.|[01:43.28]
Moving to a new
country can be difficult,|[01:46.02]
but if you are willing to learn,|[01:47.82]
it can be a very
rewarding experience.
