[00:00.49]My Sister's Visit to Canada|[00:03.79]
My sister had never
been to Canada|[00:06.21]
but came for a visit last April.|[00:08.64]
I picked her up at
the airport in Toronto|[00:11.62]
and drove her through the
traffic and multilane highways,|[00:15.23]
past the grape vines and
peach trees to Niagara Falls,|[00:18.85]
where I live.|[00:20.46]
She was very tired from
the flight and soon slept.|[00:24.01]
The first day we
walked to see the Falls.|[00:27.49]
The spray from the
Falls drifts high into the air|[00:31.23]
and across the people
standing to watch.|[00:34.09]
There are people
from all over the world|[00:36.64]
watching the water
and using their cameras.|[00:39.38]
Because it was April there
was still ice beside the water,|[00:43.73]
huge chunks of ice that
looked like white rocks.|[00:47.22]
In the river there were
floating pieces of ice|[00:50.76]
moving downstream.|[00:52.88]
The next day we went to the town|[00:54.81]
where the Niagara
River joins Lake Ontario.|[00:57.86]
The weather was warm.|[00:59.03]
We walked a long way
and our feet were hot,|[01:02.64]
so we went down to the edge
of the water to put our feet in.|[01:06.31]
One toe in was enough!|[01:08.31]
The water was so cold
it made our feet ache!|[01:12.78]
A piece of ice drifted
beside our feet.|[01:16.08]
I put one foot in for
a second then out,|[01:18.94]
as the pain of the cold
went right through me!|[01:22.55]
My sister could not understand|[01:24.79]
how it could be so warm,
but there was still ice.|[01:28.52]
Another day we went
to see my daughter;|[01:32.19]
she is living on a farm
an hour's drive away.|[01:35.61]
We walked through her trees;|[01:37.85]
the buds were starting
to turn into leaves.|[01:40.84]
We stopped and looked
at the spring wildflowers.|[01:44.14]
We climbed across a creek
by walking over a fallen tree.|[01:48.12]
We saw the footprints
of raccoons by the water.|[01:51.54]
There was fresh air and
sunshine and blue sky.|[01:55.27]
On the way home we
stopped for hamburgers|[01:58.69]
and fries at a
drive-through restaurant.|[02:01.43]
She had never been to a
drive-through restaurant before.|[02:05.10]
Then we went to a donut shop.|[02:08.27]
There are no donut
shops where she lives.|[02:11.51]
There was a choice of
20 different types of donut:|[02:15.42]
some round, some with
holes, some with frosting,|[02:19.22]
some with jam
inside--each was different.|[02:23.20]
The days passed quickly,|[02:25.50]
and soon it was time to
take her back to the airport.|[02:28.86]
Some of the trees
now had leaves;|[02:31.54]
some of the tulips
were now blooming.|[02:34.27]
It was hard to say
goodbye to my sister.|[02:37.20]
I hope we can visit again soon.
